Today's Thought Bite is by Shrimati Lalita Arya, a wise and respected elder in the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition. Ammaji, as she is known by many, writes from India of impressions gathered at the cremation of a swami (monk). Ammaji's brief post is both poetic and profound in that it expresses life's paradoxical nature. Enjoy. Randall
Attended the cremation of a Sw. A on the banks of the Ganges near the ashrams spread along the softly flowing river. Sitting on the ghaat (steps) watching the burning pyre, watching the crowds watching the burning pyre, moving my vision along the ashrams, raising my eyes to the mountains, the skies - so solid so seemingly permanent and then watching the flames ascend among the chanting voices... as we offer handfuls of black sesame'd water to calm the fire and to give peace for the departing soul.
