Thought Bite: In A Body, Yet Not A Body

We all live a dual existence. We, or most of us at least, identify with these material bodies and, yet, the great sages of Yoga tell us that we are not the body.

This lovely article, which appeared in The New York Times Opinionator by Brian Jay Stanley, expresses the conundrum all humans find ourselves in, identifying with these bodies, yet not being the body.

Yoga takes the matter further. Mr Stanley seems to ultimately identify with the mind, while Yoga classes the mind as still part of matter. The True Self, according to Yoga, is not material at all, although its presence gives matter a semblance of consciousness and aliveness.
