Thought Bite: Daily Refuge

Originally published in 2012, this is a message I felt bears repeating.

One of the things most beneficial is devoting a few minutes every day to sit quietly and turn one's attention inward, while breathing smoothly and deeply, and focusing the mind on a single focus, i.e. the breath or a mantra. This simple practice has an amazing calming effect on the mind.

In the process, many stray thoughts that were forgotten in the basement of the mind rise up into awareness where they can be let go or acted upon. This practice allows one to begin every day from a starting point. In a world that is full of chaos, having a still point from which to begin each day is a treasure. Over time, this simple meditation practice deepens and nurtures. It's never too late to begin enjoying this beautiful daily experience.
